Davis County is known for its high quality of life and is often referred to as a "bedroom community", however that doesn't mean we should "sleepwalk" into the future. Davis County needs an energetic leader that possesses a voice of reason – one that can develop a VISION, implement a STRATEGY, and then EXECUTE utilizing principles of conservative governance and prudent expenditure.
Fiscal Responsibility
Bret has a proven track record of prioritizing essential services, focusing on the must haves instead of the nice to haves and enhancements. He bases decisions on what is in the best interest of the taxpayer, both in the short and long-term. His decisions are not based upon political expediency.
Economic Development
It is more important today than ever before, that in partnership with the county's 15 cities, we develop a comprehensive and aggressive master plan for neighborhood and business sectors. Key areas of focus need to be appropriate and affordable housing options, robust areas for a wide variety of business opportunities, efficient transportation infrastructure and systems, and quality of life inclusive of air, water, health, and recreation.
Public Safety
With population growth there are increased challenges with issues such as homelessness, gangs, and drugs. Most crimes and personal tragedies are related to addictions. It is imperative that attention and support be given to the County Attorney and Sheriff, and partner with other local agencies and community partners to tackle these issues from multiple angles. Emergency preparedness is also critical.
Transportation
Urgent transportation issues require continued attention to projects such as: the upcoming I-15 rebuild, strategic double tracking of FrontRunner, Davis-Salt Lake Community Connector project, bus alternatives, enhancement of east/west corridors, and active transportation options. These priorities improve economic development and increase the accessibility of neighborhoods, allowing residents maximum time with families instead of wading through congestion.
Communication
Effective leadership is based on good listening habits. Greater efforts need to be made to enhance relationships with leaders and citizens of each of the 15 cities in the county. By working together, instead of in silos, partnerships are developed, processes can be streamlined, and projects completed in a timelier and cost-efficient manner for the benefit of county residents.
